Income distribution

57% of the top 1% of taxpayers were not in the top 1% 10 years earlier. Mobility is critical, by increasing marginal rate the government create both a barrier and a disincentive for individuals to increase thier earnings. Additionally, the largest disparities in income are generated by lifestyle and individual choice - marital status and education. Asking people who make good. Join Ed and. Rebate stable families to foot the bill for people who do not is regressive and un-american.

Marriage

Government should not be in the business of defining personal relationships including marriage. Neither the federal government nor the states should define what a marriage is. The government should enforce private contracts between individuals. If people wish to be married through the rules of their church the government should enforce that set of rules. If consenting adults wish to enter into any non-coerced contractual arrangement should be allowed to do so. The government should only act as an enforcer of those contracts regardless of the terms.

Republican Debates

I am watching the republican debate and I am disgusted by the fact that some of these people who believe in the rights of free people here are the first to deny any rights to free and peaceful people outside our borders. If Iran, North Korea, et al are such a threat then blown them hell right now. Otherwise leave them alone, bring our troops home but be ready to blast them back to the stone age if they mess with us.

Thus far I cannot stand:
Tim Pawlenty - complete idiot
Huntsman - wimpy , spineless loser
Santorum - neocon, pseudo nazi, lightweight

Bachman ok but a bit strident and seems like a lightweight
Gingrich is a mean grumpy man

Like:
Romney
Cain
Paul- he cannot win but his ideas are sound but he cannot articulate them

Rational Tax Policy

In the interest of fairness and efficiency I would propose the follow tax structure.

1. Eliminate all Corporate taxes. These are simply hidden taxes and are paid by the consumer of the Corporation's products anyway. Make US Companies more competitive and make foreign companies want to invest in the US by eliminating all Corporate Income taxes. This also keeps congress from meddling and playing favorites.

2. Eliminate all personal income taxes and abolish the IRS. ( read the whole post before you go off the deep end)

3. Institute a National Consumption Tax on all transactions. If we want a revenue neutral proposition the initial rate would need to be approximately 25% based on approximately $15 trillion GDP and $4 trillion in Government spending. (more on that in another post)

4. For those who feel this is regressive (there are troglodytes among us) exempt basic food, article of clothing under $100, and housing (either rent or mortgage) up to $6,000 annual expense.

These changes would encourage investment and saving, discourage consumption, eliminate distortions, and unleash a flood of new economic activity. It would save hundreds of billions in private legal and accounting fees as well as the entire budget of the IRS. The downsides....congress would not be able to partake in social engineering experiments.
